How To Set a Password on Pen Drive ?
Windows provides an inbuilt function of Bit-Locker facility. It allows you to set a Security code for your pen drive and encrypts your important Information. The steps given below doesn't require you to download or use any third party app to set a Security code on a flash drive.
Steps -
- Insert the pen drive on your PC. Then go to My Computer. Right click the flash drive (Pen-Drive) and select the activate BitLocker option.
- Turn on “Use a password to unlock the drive” option then Click on the mark.
- Now you will be asked to enter a Security code. This Security code is going to used for unlocking the flash drive.
- Set a strong Security code and click on the following button.
- In cases of forgotten the Security code, you will have to use a recovery key to access the flash drive. For saving a recovery key, just select “Save to a file” option.
- Click the subsequent button and now you will able to choose the location where you would like to save the recovery key.
- Click on the Save button to save the recovery key to the required location.
- After saving the recovery file, click on the following button. Now you will ready to select the “Encrypt used disk space only” option. This can be often a faster option and is best employed in new PCs and drive.
- Click on the following button, Then click on the “Start Encrypting” button.
- This will now start the encryption process. After the finishing of the encryption process, just click the Close button.
- You can now remove the flash drive from the PC.
When inserting the encrypted flash drive to a computer
When you connect the encrypted flash drive to a computer system, you'll be shown a lock symbol within the flash drive icon to unlock the flash drive.
- Enter the bit locker Security code that you previously created for the flash drive.
- If you had forgotten the Security code, Then simply use the recovery key which is saved in your computer.
