What does Bluetooth mean ?
Bluetooth is a standard open wireless technology that allows electronic data to be transmitted over short distances. Bluetooth was introduced by Jaap Haartsen in 1994 as a wireless alternative to RS-232 cables.
Bluetooth communicates with a variety of electronic devices and forms a personal network operating within the 2.4 GHz band. It's operating range is based on the device class. A variety of digital devices uses bluetooth including mobiles, MP3 players, peripheral devices, and personal computers also.
Unlike other wireless technologies, Bluetooth establish it's network with high-end services such as file pushing, voice transmission.
Bluetooth has the following features -
- Specification based on frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology.
- The network communicates with one master Bluetooth device and is formed with up to seven devices.
- The Free BSD stack is accomplished with the Net Graph Framework via short wavelength radio transmission signals.
- Device technology includes secrecy, key derivation and authentication via Secure and Fast Encryption Routine (SAFER) + block cipher algorithms.
Bluetooth is used for...
- Wireless control and connection between mobile and hands-free headsets.
- Wireless connection between multiple nodes in areas with limited services.
- Wireless communication with PCs and peripheral input/output devices.
- To transfer files, contact details and calendar appointments between multiple devices, with Object Exchange. (OBEX)
- To replace traditional wired communications, such as GPS receivers, medical equipment, traffic control equipment and bar code scanners.
- For low-bandwidth applications, when a high USB bandwidth is not desired.
- Bridge Multiple Industrial Ethernet Network.
- Wireless controller in many interactive games and play stations.
- Access dialup internet connection via PDA or PC.
- Manage short-distance data transmission between medical and other tele-health devices.
- Mobile phone networking with Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication. (DECT)
- Identify and track object positions with a real-time location system
- Track livestock and prisoner movement.
- Personal mobile security application.
